Top Station
Top Station, a breathtakingly beautiful place on Kerala - Tamilnadu border, is located around 32 km away from Munnar, on the Munnar-Kodaikanal road, at a height of 1700 meters above the sea level. Top Station offers a panoramic view of the majestic Western Ghats and the valley of the Theni district. From here, one can get 360 degrees view of the Western Ghats.
Top Station got its name from the fact that it was the uppermost railway station, located in the Kundala Valley. Top Station is notable as the historic transshipment location for Kannan Devan tea delivered therefrom Munnar and Mattupetty by railway and then down by ropeway to Kottagudi. You can still find the ruins of ropeway lines.
This destination is popular for many reasons, however, the famous Neelakurinji flowers (Strobilanthus), which bloom once in twelve years, makes this place special among tourists. Top Station is the highest approachable road in South India. The viewpoint at Top Station offers breathtakingly beautiful views of Kannan Devan Hills. The valleys all around, the misty mountains and distant waterfalls all make this place a must-visit spot in Munnar.
